Internship opportunities are available with CIVILGEAR, LLC for motivated civil engineering students interested in gaining hands-on experience in the land development industry.
This internship provides an opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers, designers, inspectors, and project managers while gaining exposure to the full lifecycle of a land development project. Interns will participate in real-world projects and develop practical engineering skills that translate directly into a future career in civil engineering.
Internship Experience
As a Civil Engineering Intern with CIVILGEAR, you will have the opportunity to:
- Gain hands-on experience with the major phases of the land development process through involvement with active projects.
- Evaluate existing site conditions, development requirements, permitting requirements, and project constraints.
- Assist with the preparation of site plans, grading and drainage plans, stormwater management systems, utility designs, and other civil engineering construction documents using industry-standard software and tools.
- Develop an understanding of how construction documents, quantity and cost estimates, bid documents, permit applications, and project reviews are prepared and coordinated.
- Gain exposure to the permitting and regulatory approval process, including coordination with local and state agencies.
- Learn how civil engineers support projects during construction through field observations, inspections, project coordination, construction administration, and final certification.
- Work directly with experienced civil engineers, designers, inspectors, and project managers while receiving guidance throughout each phase of a project.
- Develop a practical understanding of how classroom engineering concepts are applied to real-world projects from initial planning and design through permitting, construction, and project completion.
A Practical Introduction to Civil Engineering
The CIVILGEAR internship program is designed to provide meaningful exposure to the day-to-day responsibilities of a civil engineering professional—not simply observation or administrative work.
Interns will have opportunities to contribute to active projects, develop technical and problem-solving skills, gain experience with professional engineering workflows, and better understand how the various disciplines involved in land development work together.
Our goal is to provide students with a well-rounded understanding of the complete land development process while helping them build the technical knowledge, professional experience, and practical skills that will prepare them for a successful career in civil engineering.
Internship availability may vary based on current project workload, academic schedules, and office needs.
